The Internet Is Not Pleased with Ivanka Trump's Latest Instagram Post
Update, 1/31: Ivanka Trump came under fire over the weekend for posting a photo with her husband Jared Kushner. The image showed the couple appearing to attend a gala while protests broke out throughout the country over her father's controversial Muslim ban.
According to sources close to the couple, Ivanka and Jared, who are both orthodox Jews, were observing Shabbat, and were therefore off of technology from Friday evening to Saturday evening. This info suggests that without the Internet, the couple weren't aware of how bad the outcry was over Trump's executive order, and the first daughter therefore wasn't aware of how tone-deaf her photo appeared when she posted it on Sunday. It's a likely story, but how possible is it for the president's daughter and senior advisor to be that much out of the loop?
"Ivanka feels terrible about the post, and does not want something like this to happen again," another source said. Though she reportedly regrets the post, Trump has not issued an apology via a public statement or social media, and she has still not deleted the photo.
Original post, 1/29: In the midst of Saturday's humanitarian crisis, sparked by her father Donald Trump's executive order to block immigration and travel from seven Muslim-majority countries, Ivanka Trump seemed entirely unfazed. While activists and influencers took to social media to express their outrage over Trump's ban and show support for the afflicted refugees and immigrants, the first daughter used her public platform to show off her glamorous outfit.
Last night, Ivanka shared a caption-less picture of herself and husband Jared Kushner to both her Instagram and Twitter accounts. The photograph showed the couple standing in front of a mirror—Jared dressed in a tuxedo, Ivanka in a metallic silver gown.

As one would expect, the Internet was not pleased with the poorly timed post and wasted no time in slamming Ivanka for being insensitive and out of touch. Some called the move "tone-deaf," while one user likened Ivanka's callous behavior to that of French monarch Marie Antoinette, who is infamously quoted as having said "Let them eat cake" upon learning that the French people were starving and without bread.
