Oprah, Miley Cyrus & More Will Host Graduation for Class of 2020
- In partnership with Facebook and Instagram, stars like Oprah and Miley Cyrus are teaming up to host a virtual graduation ceremony for the class of 2020.
- The move comes after the coronavirus pandemic has shut down schools and events across the world.
- Commencement speakers include Lil Nas X, Jennifer Garner, and Simone Biles.
To honor the class of 2020, Oprah Winfrey, Miley Cyrus, and more stars are teaming up with Facebook and Instagram to host a virtual graduation ceremony. The move comes following the shutdown of schools, businesses, events, and day-to-day life due to the coronavirus pandemic. Subsequently, many in-person commencement ceremonies for graduating classes have also been canceled in the process.
The multi-hour livestream event, #Graduation2020: Facebook and Instagram Celebrate the Class of 2020, will be broadcast on May 15 on Facebook Watch and the Facebook app. You can also watch individual segments on the Instagram account or on the accounts from the contributors. With multiple household names participating, this graduation is set to be unlike any other.
Winfrey will deliver the commencement address (a job she's already well-versed in doing). Miley Cyrus will perform her hit single "The Climb." And stars like Lil Nas X, Jennifer Garner, Simone Biles, and Awkwafina will address the class of 2020.
Leading up to the main event, Instagram and Facebook will launch a series of other graduation-themed tidbits, from spotlighting iconic senior experiences to releasing new in-app tools and features, like a countdown and graduation stickers. The platforms will also provide resources to help graduates, schools, and families and friends host their own virtual ceremonies and parties.
